Jax: You know, not that I'm adverse to the idea, but don't you think having sex might complicate things between us?
Skye: On the contrary, I think it might simplify things. It's perfectly reasonable, natural really. I'm a woman, you're a man. We're both unattached, both tolerably attractive. Don't tell me you've never considered the possibility.
Jax: From time to time.
Skye: Whenever we're together, I feel it, even when we didn't like each other. I'm sure it isn't just me.
Jax: It isn't.
Skye: Then you know what I mean. That faint little charge, that slight fission of electricity that kind of makes the hairs on the back of your neck just stand up.
Jax: Your description is picturesque, to put it mildly. Only question is, what do you want to do about it?
Skye: What to do? Always a difficult question.
Jax: Well, speaking from experience...
Skye: Oh, so this has happened to you before?
Jax: Yeah, more than once.
Skye: Then you know how important it is for us to be candid about it. I mean, things have been going so well except for the occasional difficulty.
Jax: Yeah, I wouldn't want this to cause a problem between us.
Skye: Oh, no. No, in fact, I'm glad that it's out in the open. I think we should thank Ned for bringing it up.
Jax: Yes, you know, you're absolutely right. Next time I see Ned, I will thank him.
Skye: So, then, we're agreed we're attracted to each other. Fortunately, there are ways to deal with this.
Jax: Yes, I could think of a few, but why don't you run down your list first?
Skye: Suppression? But that's so unhealthy, and that never works. Or we could acknowledge it like we just did and try to rise above it, but, well, that's hardly a solution.
Jax: So where does that leave us, exactly?
Skye: At door number three. We could act on it. I mean, really, that's, it's the only way to get past it, or else it'll just, you know, hang there like this not-so-invisible curtain, just affecting everything we do or say.
Jax: No, can't have that, now, can we?
Skye: I, I guess not, given how tempting the alternative is.
Jax: Well, then I guess we should open door number three.
Skye: Yeah, if, if you insist.
|
Skye: That was...
Jax: It certainly was.
Skye: Please, don't.
Jax: Why? You didn't like that?
Skye: On the contrary, I, I liked it too much. Enough that maybe we should just forget that it happened.
Jax: It's a little late for that.
Skye: You know, maybe, maybe "forget" was too strong a word. Perhaps "disregard," or even "ignore"?
Jax: You know, denial is just as bad as suppression. Like you said, we're both adults, we're both unattached.
Skye: Yeah, maybe it's better if we both stay that way.
Jax: I thought this was supposed to simplify things.
Skye: Oh, it has. Everything is much clearer now.
Jax: What are you afraid of?
Skye: I'm afraid of how I feel when I'm in your arms, Jax. Look, there's too much that I want to accomplish, ok? I've worked too hard and I've sacrificed too much to simply let sex get in the way, ok?
Jax: How do you know it would?
Skye: After that kiss, you don't think that it would? No, I, I think that it would better if you and I just go back to being plain and simple business partners. It would just be safer for everyone involved.
Jax: Since when do you play it safe, hmm?
Skye: That's just a dare.
Jax: Are you taking me up on it? Look, I won't push you, Skye, even though I'm tempted.
Skye: Well, you wouldn't have to push very far, trust me. But, but don't. Unless, of course, maybe it would get you to tell me what you have on Edward.
Jax: Oh, I see. So this is about power? About leverage?
Skye: Oh, and this isn't about power and leverage for you? Just think how much power and leverage we'd have together, Jax.
Jax: You're really something, you know that? Always a plan, always an angle.
Skye: Which is exactly why we make such a good team. What?
Jax: Nothing.
Skye: Oh, that look was hardly nothing.
Jax: That look was gratitude, maybe even a little affection.
Skye: Oh?
Jax: You know, at the risk of complicating things all over again, I am glad that you came into my life.
Skye: Why?
Jax: Because I was bored, complacent, and you're far from boring.
Skye: That's supposed to be a compliment, right?
Jax: You're a conundrum. You're complicated, but what you want and what you need are really quite simple. You're smart enough to know when to play dumb, and you're savvy enough to confuse even me. And on top of that, you're beautiful.
Skye: Ooh. Careful, Mr. Jacks, you just might make me want to kiss you again, and we'd be right back in quicksand.
Jax: I've been in worse places. But let me assure you, I am taking Ned and Edward's warnings under advisement and I will proceed with due caution, but I'll be proceeding with you.
Skye: Well, then I guess I won't be needing to get anything else on Edward.
Jax: But you're going to try anyway, right?
Skye: Maybe.
Jax: You won't find it.
Skye: Wanna bet?
Jax: You're on. I'm going to give you fair warning, I'm ready for you.
[Phone rings]
Jax: Excuse me. Hello? When? I don't understand. How? Right. No, that's fine. I'll take care of it. Thanks.
Skye: What happened?
Jax: Sonny managed to get a stay on the condemnation order.
Skye: You mean he's won?
Jax: For now. Sonny Corinthos is as slick as they come. That's how he makes his living, you know? Just like a little snake, he just finds his way through. Oh, God! Never again.
Skye: The city council approved that order. How could Sonny outmaneuver that?
Jax: Alexis! Alexis, she is the best lawyer in the state, and she insists on working for Sonny Corinthos. You know, I've got to hand it to him, he does surround himself with people who are loyal to the death, no matter how misguided they are. There has got to be a way to nail him. There has got to be a way to nail him that is quick, effective, and permanent.
Skye: There is. We catch Sonny in the act. We get him so dead to rights that even the loyal, dedicated Alexis Davis can't save him. Want to know how we do that?
