Jax: Going somewhere? I'm sorry, is this a bad time?

Skye: Oh, you can drop the perfect manners. I'm basically immune at this point.

Jax: Look, Skye, I don't know what game you're playing...

Skye: And while you're at it, the "cool, collected, oh-so-charming" routine? Well, that's getting a little tired, too.

Jax: Ok, I don't know what set you off, and at this stage, I really don't care, but do us both a favor, stay out of my business.

Skye: Oh, oh, I see. You've talked to Carly.

Jax: As you expected.

Skye: Well, let me guess. She sobbed on your shoulder, asking how you could use her so heartlessly when she was so sure she could depend on strong, competent Jax. Well, it's quite predictable and maudlin, really.

Jax: Drop it, Skye. Whatever scheme you're up to is stopping now.
I don't get it! Sonny's your enemy, not Carly. Why would you be telling her I was using her? And you, for that matter?

Skye: Because it happens to be the truth.

Jax: Excuse me?

Skye: Men like you have it down to a science, don't you? The smooth lines, the charm.

Jax: Ok, what have I done, exactly?

Skye: Do you pick women like me and Carly? Women who put up a great front but, lo and behold, there's a touch of vulnerability underneath? Women who find themselves in a jam and have to depend on a confident man to get them out of it? And there you are, the knight in shining armor, coming along to save the day, rescuing one damsel in distress after another, giving them the same smooth lines and getting the same smiling expressions, when in the end, ultimately, none of those women matter to you in the least.

Jax: Are you saying that you wanted us to be something special?

Skye: Why would I want anything special with you?

Jax: That's what you implied.

Skye: Well, I'm glad to see there's nothing wrong with your ego.

Jax: You saw me and Carly, didn't you? You followed me to her new club site.

Skye: I happened to be passing by and, yeah, yes, I saw you.

Jax: Discussing the new venture. See, I was reassuring her, you probably even saw us dancing together.

Skye: Oozing charm from every pore.

Jax: And you felt I'd done exactly the same thing to you, which made you feel betrayed and hurt.

Skye: Did I say that?

Jax: You didn't have to. That's human nature, no one wants to feel like they're part of an assembly line.

Skye: Wait, back up. You should be furious with me.

Jax: Well, you only reacted naturally.

Skye: No, I did a really mean thing. You tried to be kind to me, and it was a totally wasted effort. I'm the jerk.

Jax: Well, you did manipulate Carly and you did lash out at me, but...

Skye: Yeah, so go ahead, yell at me. I deserve it.

Jax: No, I hurt you, Skye. Ok? I'm sorry, I didn't mean to.

Skye: No, I'm sorry. When I saw you dancing with Carly, I got upset. And I, I guess I didn't put a name on it, but I was jealous, and I tried to get back at you.

Jax: Carly and I were doing business, ok? She hit a snag, I was trying to help her regain some enthusiasm, that's all.

Skye: You don't have to explain.

Jax: I know, I know, but that's the truth.

Skye: When we first got to Louisiana, I loathed it, you may have noticed. But then somehow the trip turned around and, and I had a wonderful time. You were kind and generous and funny, and it felt really special to me, and, and I assumed it did to you, too.

121101skyeandjax08.jpg

Jax: I've never had a trip quite like it.

Skye: Ouch.

Jax: No, no. I mean I really, I enjoyed myself.

Skye: I told you that I usually repay kindness with hostility, and I guess I proved myself right. It's just that I found I wanted more. Oh God, that sounded trite.

Jax: No, it doesn't. Skye, you're a beautiful woman, and I like beautiful women.

Skye: You didn't like me in the beginning.

Jax: Well, let's just say that we got off to a unique start.

Skye: That's one word for it.

Jax: I mean, I was ready to detest you and almost did, but you surprised me in Louisiana by being bright and charming and making me laugh.

Skye: I'll take that as a compliment.

Jax: It's also fair to tell you that there's very little I'm capable of giving. I'm not ready to fall in love with anyone and I don't think I ever will be because that part of my life is over.

Skye: Jax, I'm really sorry you lost the woman you loved, but there's really no reason to warn me, I'm not in love with you.

Jax: I didn't say you were.

Skye: Why the explanation?

Jax: I just want things to be clear between us.

Skye: They are.

121101skyeandjax07.jpg

Skye: Oh, have you noticed that we have this pattern?

Jax: And what's that?

Skye: Well, we hiss and spit at each other like a couple of cats, and then we circle around each other with our backs arched. But eventually, we end up purring contentedly like the best of friends.

Jax: Well, I can't say I've ever been called a cat before.

Skye: Well, now you know what's like to be compared to your horse, Ginger.

Jax: Well, I'll keep that in mind.

Skye: Oh, and, Jax, thank you again for the temporary proxy at the upcoming board meeting.

Jax: Well, you're welcome.

Skye: I will find a way to return that favor.

Jax: You're very special, Skye, I hope you know that. Good night.

Skye: Night. He'll never love again. Oh, we'll just see about that.
